WYL model photoelectric refractometer, a newly developed product, was designed especially for continuously measuring the concentration of the solution during the industrial processing in the field of sugar making, monosodium glutamate, honey, beverage and chemical industry.
This design was based on the principle of refractive phenomenon theory, the changes of the refractive index depended on the density of a substance. The reading of the dark and light margin line on the refractive index indicates the measurement of the concentrate solution.
Adopting a new optical system makes the device features shape reading on the refractive index, great accuracy and direct reading. The device becomes indispensable in the continuous production process.
According to the phenomenon of light refraction the density of a solution changes its refractive measurement, the device adapted this theory in order to measure its concentration.

Installation manual:
a) Choosing the installing place:
The device mostly are fixed on the pot or tube, WYL-5 should be install on the crystallize by-pass line. It is advisable to place in an ideal place where direct observation of the liquid flows makes possible. Make sure that the detector was emus in the solution during the whole process. Dimension of stand bracket and place to install
The user is required to make a stand bracket. Then weld the bracket on the by-pass line (pot, container, tube).
b.) Connection of the power supply:
Connect the external output of 220V power supply to the input socket of the device, and then connect 5V out put to the socket of the device.
b) Meaning of refractive index:
(1.) For WYL-1 and WYL-3 The lower scale shows the solutions Brix value at 20℃. The upper scale shows the solutions Brix value at 20℃ when the solutions temperature were 60℃.
(2.)For WYL-2 The upper scale shows the solutions Brix value at 20℃ when the solution’s temperature were 65℃. The lower portion of the scale were use in adjustment of refractive rate at 20℃.
(3.)For WYL-4 The upper scale shows the solutions Brix value at 20℃. The lower scale shows the solutions Brix value at 20℃ when the solution’s temperature were 60℃. But the reading of the Brix value should plus 3.5 Brix.
(4.)For WYL-5 The upper scale shows the °Bé when Monosodium Glutamate solution in 70℃. The lower portion of the scale were use in adjustment of refractive rate at 20℃.


Maintenance:
1. In transportation or storing the device, the device should not be expose to moist and dust, avoid direct contract, and sadden change of temperature. To prevent brokering the prism.
2. Connect a ground wire if the device were use in Lab testing.
3. When cleaning of the by-pass line (pot, container, tube) or chemical processing. The device should be dismantled to prevent it from being damage.
4. Never touch the surface of the prism or any parts of the optical components when using or maintenance.
5. If the device is to remain unused for a period of time. Dismantle the device clean and store at place with out moist and corrosive gases to prevent the device becoming mildewed, inaccurate and extended its lifetime.
6. If no light were show in the refractive index. Check first the electric connection is properly attached, if the fuse and bulb are in good condition. If the bulb is blown, take off the lampshade, loosen the screw and chance the spare bulb. Adjust the bulb stand until light wave were evenly spread on the index.
7. If there is light in refractive index, but the index are hard to see. This is often caused by internal malfunction or damage of the prism. Make sure the device is dismantling for repair or change the damage components. After repairing adjust the zero position and range following the procedure below:
1. Adjustment of Zero position: Remove device side cover “1”,”2”, use small screwdriver pass through cover “2” then loosen the screw that tie the index inside the cover. Place the device on wooden stand upside down with a refractive mirror under. Use a cotton bud dip with 95% alcohol and clean the prism surface. Drop a liquid sample that it’s measure in °Bé refractometer (A device use specially for measuring of brix) is zero at 20℃. Then use a screwdriver pass through cover “1” and adjust the refractive index to zero position. After adjustment tie-den the adjustment screw place the cover “1” and cover “2” back.
2. Adjustment of range: Follow the directions given in “Adjustment of zero position” compose a liquid sample which obtain the maximum reading of the lower scale in the refractive index, drop on the prism surface. If the location of the meet line on the graduated scale where the light & dark fields meet is match with the maximum reading of refractive index. Then that means the range is correct. When adjusting the WYL-2 and WYL-3 drop few drop of C10H7Br on the prism surface, then put the polished face of standard glass on the prism surface. If the location of the point on the graduated scale where the light & dark fields meet is same with the Brix of the standard glass. That means the range is correct. Other hence if the two case mentions above the light and dark field don’t match with the reading of the index scale, then dismantles panel component and cover. Loosen the four screw on two side plate adjust the side plate highs and corresponding components until the zero position and range are correct. Due to the scale shows in WYL-3 are solutions Brix measurement at 20℃, so the refractive index should the show corresponding reading with the standard glass.
